UW-L Athletic Director accepts offer at Washington U.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW)—University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Athletic Director Josh Whitman is leaving after accepting an offer to become the Director of Athletics at Washington University in St. Louis.

Whitman will replace Washington University Director of Athletics—John Schael—who announced his retirement in January.

According to the university, during Whitman's tenure, UW-L won four national championships and 19 NCAA and National Collegiate Gymnastics Association individual titles.

The Eagles also collected 21 WIAC crowns and finished in the top five 17 times at NCAA championship events.

As for resource development, Whitman increased the operating budget by nearly 50%, launched a corporate sponsorship program producing more than $200,000 annually, and was responsible for seeking numerous major donations to the school.

By increasing revenue for the department, Whitman also expanded the staff by 14 employees, including five head coaches.

Improvements to UW-L facilities were also made. This includes plans for a new gymnastics practice facility, four new scoreboards, a renovated baseball facility, a new softball facility, and a new weight training facility.

Whitman plans to stay at UW-L through early July and begin his duties at Washington University on August 1.
