LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Bill Berg, the President and CEO of Dairyland Power Cooperative, is retiring at the end of this year. Berg gave his final speech at the company's 73rd annual meeting at the La Crosse Center Wednesday. Berg has been with the company for 40 years, serving as CEO and President for 25.
About 600 employees attended the meeting. Senior management took questions and longtime employees were honored.
"I didn't imagine that I would become the CEO of this organization. Maybe secretly I thought it would be interesting if I did become that but I had no specific ambition when I started. 40 years goes by very quickly", said Berg.
Berg says one of the things he is most proud of is the company's ability to integrate renewable resources.
"It's been a privilege working for a cooperative. I like that type of organization. We have our members as the people we serve and we're responsible to them that helps us keep really focused on what our job really is," said Berg.
Berg will retire by the end of this year. He said he plans to spend more time traveling and with his family.
The Board of Directors will begin a search both internally and nationally for a successor.
