LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The trial for a La Crosse man accused of fatally stabbing another man last year is delayed six months.
27-year-old Mitrel Anderson is charged with the stabbing death of 24-year-old Demario Lee at the Cass Street Kwik Trip last June.
Anderson's trial, originally set to start Monday, June 9, will now begin in December.
The defense made a motion requesting an ability to include information about the victim's past. Judge Levine approved that motion, but gave the prosecution more time to prepare. Anderson will argue he acted in self defense.
Judge Elliot Levine said, "We're out of time, we're simply out of time. Part of that is these were very complex motions. I think the defense did wait too late to file it."
Anderson will return to court June 16 for additional motion hearings. His two-week trial is scheduled to start December 9.
