LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) Apparently Mother Nature is no fan of track and field. WIAA state track fans, athletes and coaches were evacuated from the Veterans Memorial Sports Complex Saturday morning. Storms rolled through before 11 o'clock forcing a delay. The meet originally set to re-start at 3 was then pushed back until 4:30. But the competition got underway and they're prepared to go deep into the night. "With track I don't think there's anything that's too late. We can go through midnight. I know high school meets have gone late into the evening. I think it's more important for us to have everybody here. People don't start disappearing and we start losing spectators and athletes. We can go through 11-12 o'clock, I think we're OK. I don't think that's an issue," said On-Site Coordinator Josh Buchholtz.
Buchholtz added that there is a contingency plan to finish the meet on Sunday if needed.
