Take Kids Fishing is a day for kids to enjoy outdoors
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Saturday's rain didn't scare away the fish at Take Kids Fishing Day.
About 150 kids made their way to Pettibone Lagoon this weekend to take their best shot at catching bass and sunfish.
The Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO and Union Sportsmen's Alliance Boots on the Ground program teamed up to host the event.
They said it's a great way to keep kids active.
"I think all of us talk about getting our kids outdoors a little more. They'll sit in front of the TV, or sit in front of the game consoles and those kind of things. (It's about) getting them out so they're not just hanging out. So they're actually doing an activity," said Bill Brockmiller, president of the local AFL-CIO.
Take Kids Fishing Day is in it's third year.
Participants also had the chance to get a free lunch and have their faces painted.
