UPDATE: 2 hospitalized after car crashes into building on West Avenue S.
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Two people are taken to the hospital after a car crashed into the Mayo Employees Federal Credit Union Sunday.
A driver was driving south on West Avenue. According to police, that man has a medical condition that triggered, causing him to cross over four lanes, jump the curb, hit a bicyclist, then crash into the building at 605 W. Avenue S., near the intersection of Ferry Street.
It happened just after 11 a.m.
The female bicyclist, a student, has minor injuries, according to Lt. Chuck Frandsen of the La Crosse Police Department.
Tri-State Ambulance took her and the driver to the hospital.
The impact of the crash severed the supports on the front of the credit union, according to a release from the La Crosse Fire Department.
The department's Urban Search and Rescue Team built shoring to support the building until it's repaired by a contractor.
Based on eyewitness accounts, it appears that the car involved is a blue convertible Sedan.
Police said they cited the driver for not having a valid license.
