LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - La Crosse's downtown is home to the Mississippi River, restaurants, bars, hotels, and shops.
La Crosse's Main Street is at the heart of it all, and now the city is being recognized as Wisconsin's newest Main Street Community.
The designation is given by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.
Downtown Mainstreet Incorporated applied for the designation. Executive Director Robin Moses said it's a wonderful opportunity to align with them.
With the Wisconsin Main Street Program members from the WEDC will help local businesses with things like marketing, business plans, and finances.
The Main Street Program helps cities restore architecture and prioritize building projects. All with the goal of maintaining the area's history. La Crosse is the 36th city in the state to be selected as a Main Street Community.
La Crosse is the only city to receive the designation this year.
