MADISON (WKOW) -- Across the state, hundreds upon hundreds of couples are celebrating after Friday's ruling to strike down the ban on same-sex marriage. It looks like these new marriages could be a large boost in the state economy.
CNN Money says only a year after same-sex marriage was made legal, New York saw a $259 million rise in their state economy. An ABC News Report shows Iowa saw a $12 million to $13 million increase two years after legalization.
In Wisconsin, the wedding industry is fully prepared to see a jump.
The weekend of the ruling, Milwaukee was holding a Bridal Expo. Our affiliate, WISN, talked with wedding vendors who were pleased with the ruling.
"It's boosting the industry itself, so if you are within the wedding industry, you're seeing your number rise," says David Gaffke, a Bridal Show vendor.
Keith Cokoruz from Badger State Bridal Expo says, "Equality is equality, and love is love. We're happy to help anyone plan that special day."
