Onalaska's Hutson in contention at State Golf Meet

VERONA, Wis. (WXOW)  Onalaska's Bennett Hutson shot a scintillating three-under par 68 Monday in the first round of the WIAA State Golf Meet at University Ridge.

Hutson is in 2nd place in division one, trailing Oak Creek's Taylor Steger by just one shot.

Tomah's Trey Hewuse shot a first round 78 and is in 36th.

It was a rough day for Holmen.

They are in 13th place after carding a 335 as a team Monday. Drew Schroeder shot an uncharacteristic 88. Teammate Connor Frawley was also high than usual after an 84. Eric Olson led Holmen Monday with an 81.

Holmen is 27 strokes behind the leader, Homestead, which shot a 308.

The final round is set for Tuesday.
