La Crosse Police announce bike safety campaign

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - La Crosse Police along with the local Dairy Queen in the city, is starting a safety program called "You've Been Caught Wearing Your Helmet".

As officers are out on patrol this summer, they'll hand out coupons for a free small DQ cone when they see children wearing their helmets as they ride bikes.

The coupons can be redeemed at the Dairy Queen on Mormon Coulee Road.

Both the department and the Dairy Queen see this as a positive way to reinforce and reward safety to children when bicycling. The officers will also have a good way to make a positive connection with kids in the community.
