VERONA, Wis. (WXOW) Bennett Hutson's brilliant post-season run comes up two shots short of winning the division one individual state title. Hutson shot a one over 72 during day two of the WIAA Golf State Meet at University Ridge Tuesday and finished one under par for the tournament. But that was one stroke behind the division one champ, Kaylor Steger of Oak Creek. After a par on number 9, Hutson took a three-shot lead into the back nine. But three bogies opened the door for Steger to get the title. Still, the Onalaska junior sure made an impression on the statewide stage. "I think I left putts in the middle short 4 or 5 times today. If I just get one or two of those to fall things would be different. Then the putt on 18, it looked pretty good. Then it got right up to the hole and lipped out. That happens. I'm looking forward to tournaments this summer and coming back next year and giving it another go," Hutson said.
The Holmen team bounced back from a rough day one to have the best team score on day two. They had 3 players shoot under 80 led by Tyler Church's 71. Holmen finished 10th overall, 23 shots behind champion Homestead.
