Wisconsin Vital Records now processing same-sex marriage licenses

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (AP) -- The Wisconsin Office of Vital Records is now processing same-sex marriage licenses after being instructed to do so by Gov. Scott Walker's office.

Vital Records had previously been accepting the licenses from county clerks, but not processing them as they waited on further guidance from Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen.

But on Wednesday, the Governor's office made the final decision to have Vital Records start processing the licenses after a discussion with Van Hollen's office.

"It's incumbent upon them to fulfill their administrative duties and that's what they're going to do in this case," said Joceyln Webster, spokeswoman for Gov. Walker.
