Man rescued from water at La Crosse Boat Harbor

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - A man was pulled from the water Wednesday afternoon after struggling for nearly 20 minutes while trying to clean his boathouse.

Officials said they arrived at the La Crosse Municipal Boat Harbor around 5:10 p.m. and found a 78-year-old man lying on the dock, completely exhausted.

La Crosse Fire Captain Dan Skiles said the man was noticed by a 10-year-old boy, who called for his mother and helped initiate the rescue.

Skiles said the man was just trying to hang on and went below the surface of the water a few times but did not swallow any water. He was found between his houseboat and the dock.

Skiles said Tri-State Ambulance transported the man to Gundersen Health System after he passed a quick physical exam on site.
