LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Earlier this year, Obi Christenson, an 8-year-old boy from La Crescent, won fourth prize in White Cloud’s national tissue box design contest with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Those facial tissue boxes appeared in stores late last week and the tissues quickly sold out at Wal-Mart.
“We anticipated a positive response from the community but they are selling out faster than we expected” says Amanda Vandehey, CMN Hospitals Specialist, Gundersen Medical Foundation.
Obi’s artwork, along with the first, second and third prize winner’s designs, is featured on special edition White Cloud facial tissue boxes available exclusively at most Wal-Mart stores nationwide through June.
According to Vandehey, the office has been receiving phone calls about when the special boxes are available. Apparently, fans of Obi are looking for the Obi-designed boxes, but they sold out so quickly that even when customers were checking at Wal-Mart they were already scooped up.
The community can continue to support Obi and help Gundersen Health System earn an additional $15,000 donation from White Cloud if one of the community’s Wal-Mart stores sells the most special edition boxes.
The top selling store will also win an in-store event with a special appearance from Miss America 2014, Nina Davuluri.
You may remember that Obi won the hearts of many throughout this contest, including his favorite NFL player, Brett Favre. Favre personally encouraged his fans to vote for Obi who is being treated for neuroblastoma cancer.
