La Crosse Police get new emergency vehicle

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - La Crosse Police receive a new vehicle to help them respond to emergency situations.

The federal government gave the department a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle.  The vehicle is one of 12 given to municipalities around the state.

The MRAP (pronounced M-RAP), originally cost $733, 000.

According to the department, the vehicle will be used by the Emergency Response Team in situations where there may be an active shooter or similar type incident.

They also plan to use the vehicle in rescues where a traditional police vehicle may not be able to go.

The department states they are "committed to training and equipping our officers to safely respond to any incident or threat to our community, as well as providing emergency aid to any jurisdiction that requests our assistance."
