Chad Erickson Memorial Park now open

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The La Crosse community honored one of its own Saturday.

The Chad Erickson Memorial Park is more than just a place for kids to play, enjoy nature, and go fishing.

It's a way to remember its namesake, Chad Erickson.

Chad's family was inspired by their son, who was limited to a wheelchair at the age of nine, and died at just 15-years-old.

The 22 acre park now has a handicap accessible bridge and fishing piers, activities Chad loved.

Chad's mother Barb Erickson said, "When you look out here, you see Chad, and that's what gives us the peace of mind."

His life, although short, inspired the park and its accessibility, and even though Chad can't be here to see the park his love for the outdoors will live on.

The Erickson family, along with the City's Parks and Recreation Department, The La Crosse Community Foundation and multiple area businesses helped restore the park.
