Two injured in Vernon Co. motorcycle crash

VIROQUA, Wis. (WXOW) - Two men are injured when their motorcycles crash into a ditch Saturday afternoon near Viroqua.

The Vernon County Sheriff's Office said that 83-year-old John Simacek of Apple Valley, Minnesota lost control of his motorcycle at 1:45 p.m. along Highway 56 west of Viroqua. He went into a ditch and was thrown from his motorcycle.

Another cyclist following behind, 45-year-old Scott D. Johnson of Onalaska, wasn't able to stop, hit another motorcycle, and also went into the ditch. He was also thrown from his motorcycle.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Simacek was wearing a helmet, while Johnson was not.

Both men were injured in the crashes. They were taken to Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua for treatment.
