Fire burns down home under construction in Onalaska

ONALASKA, Wis. (WXOW) - Firefighters responded to a house fire at 308 Troy Street in Onalaska at around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The home was under construction at the time.  First responders reported heavy smoke coming from the home and was fully engulfed once fire crews arrived. With the house under construction, no one was at the home at the time of the fire. Two families from a nearby duplex had to be evacuated. All were safe.

Onalaska Fire Chief, Don Dominick, says the house had no dry wall yet so the exposed wood was able to burn a lot quicker.

It took the Onalaska Fire Department around 20 minutes to get the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
