Storms cause flooding in southeast Minnesota

Posted: Updated:
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Most of the standing water caused by Monday's powerful storm system had receded by midday Tuesday.

Standing water was reported Monday night around 16th Street Southwest and Apache Mall in Rochester. On the west and south sides of Apache Mall, water levels rose to the point of partially submerging several cars outside of Macy's department store and Red Lobster.

In Byron, heavy rain fell and dramatically reduced visibility at times. Water also collected on the roads and made it difficult for drivers to pass through the area.

In Dodge County Monday night, water flowed into ditches around Kasson. Firefighters were dispatched to help drivers and to block off roads that weren't safe to travel during the storm. Some trees were also reported down and at least one blocked a roadway in Dodge Center.

In the early morning hours Tuesday, Dodge County reported some minor flooding along the Zumbro River near Mantorville.

Albert Lea was hit hard Monday by heavy rain and strong winds as well.

Freeborn County dispatch said power crews were busy Tuesday morning getting trees off power lines as they worked to restore electricity.
