Green Circle Recycling Grand Opening

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW)- A ribbon cutting ceremony of the new State-of-the-Art Community Green Circle Recycling Facility occurred at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17th at Harter's Quick Clean-Up.  A special guest, Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefish spoke at the event.

The facility is a full service recycling center that will be open to the public for all residential, commercial and industrial recycling needs.  Matt Harter, General Manager of Harter's Quick Clean-Up, stated that it is, "the most cutting edge material recovering facility that there is out there on the market.  With the technology we are incorporating into this facility we are able to sort a broader stream of material than really any other material recovering facilities out there."

The $2.1 million dollar facility will sort the material that is usually placed into landfills.  They will then recover the material at a higher rate and have it ready for other uses.

One of the unique features of this new facility is that it incorporates single stream material rather than the traditional source-separated material.  This means that users can deposit all recyclable material into on bin; you do not have to separate.  "We do notice that when it's easier and more convenient for the user, recycling participation rates go up.  If it becomes overly burdensome and there are requirements to separate various types of material, participation rates go down.  This facility will allow for max participation rates."

The facility will process materials at full capacity by the end of the week.
