Swanson Makes First Trip To State After 21 Years

La Crosse, WIS. (WXOW) -------It's been 21 years in the making, but Viroqua Head Coach Pete Swanson is finally taking his team to the WIAA State Tournament.

Swanson has won over 250 career games with the Blackhawks. He's won multiple Regional and Conference titles, but prior to this season, he had never captured a Sectional title.

"It's a dream fulfilled, it's a good group of kids, just fortunate I guess," says Swanson.

Swanson, who started the Viroqua Legion Team in 1975, has logged over 1,000 summer wins and has won 3 Legion state titles.

"To finally get him to State at school, I think it means just as much to him as it does to us, it's awesome for all of us, it's a new experience and it's going to great," says senior Mitch Stalsberg

Viroqua takes on Ripon Wednesday at 8:15 p.m.
