LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The Holmen teenager accused of attacking a family member with a knife pleaded not guilty in La Crosse County Circuit Court Thursday.

Police say on June 8, Xai Vang, 19, stabbed his brother when the brother tried to intervene in a fight vang was having with his mother.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison. Thursday in court, Vang's attorney asked that bond be reduced to a signature bond, he had a $25,000 cash bond that was already reduced to $2,500.

Helen Kelly, Court Commissioner for Judge Todd Bjerke said, "The initial bond was $25,000, these are serious charges.  There is some risk. It does appear he has some positive things going on, I think some cash is required under these circumstances."

Vang's attorney also asked for a different judge to preside over the case.
