World Cup fever hits La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - World Cup fever has made its way to La Crosse.  Team USA jerseys and gear are selling out fast at the Planet Soccer specialty store on 4th Street in Downtown La Crosse.

The store opened in May and thanks in most part to the World Cup business is thriving, said Store Manager Greg Saliaras. The store carries team jerseys, shirts, and scarf's, but they only have a few adult sizes left.

Saliaras expects to sell out of Team USA gear in the next few days, and they won't be able to get anymore because it takes months to get more in stock.

Saliaras said this time of year brings a big boost for his business, "The World Cup is a great time for business for us, it's kind of like our Christmas season. The World Cup is the biggest soccer event, biggest athletic event in the world."

Official Team USA jerseys run about $90.00 and replica jerseys can cost $40.00. They usually can only be bought online or at specialty stores.

Local Team USA fans donned their gear for Sunday's World Cup game against Portugal at Dublin Square Downtown.

Diehard fans, and those that are jumping on the USA bandwagon, packed the bar at Dublin's to cheer on their nations team.

Kyle Sanger watched both USA games at Dublin, he said "It's always fun to be a patriot, it's nice too that this sport is picking up and that people are starting to care."

Dublin Square is hosting World Cup viewing parties for every game that's played.
