La Crosse man accused of trying to stab bartender

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - A La Crosse man allegedly attacked a bartender with a box cutter knife at Overtime Sports Bar on Ward Avenue early Sunday morning.

Paul Thomas Sr., 38, is charged with substantial battery, first degree reckless endangerment, and disorderly conduct.

Police said Thomas was asked to leave the bar early Sunday morning but refused.

The bartender removed Thomas from the bar and that's when Thomas tried to stab the bartender with an Exacto knife, according to the La Crosse Police Department.

Three other people had to hold Thomas down until police arrived.

In La Crosse County Circuit Court Monday, Assistant District Attorney Edward Minser said that the state will be requesting some follow up and be looking for some possible surveillance video.

Thomas is out of jail on a signature bond. He is not allowed to have contact with Overtime Sports Bar or its employees.  He is scheduled to appear in court again in July.
