Gillette's River Root Racing Readies For ATV Motocross Event

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) ------- The 2014 Mountain Dew ATV Motocross National Championship will be held in Millville, Minnesota this weekend and the event will have some local flair.

La Crescent resident Rich Gillette owns Root River Racing and his team will compete in the event.

"This is the most elite series on the planet, with the fastest ATV riders in world," Gillette said.

He originally got involved with the sport to spend more time with his son Alex, but has seen his grow into an elite level.

"My son is really excelling at the sport, he's 18 years old and here we are 8 years since we started and I'm a series sponsor and I have a race team," Gillette said.

Including Alex, Root River Racing sponsors 11 riders including eight full-time Riders ranging from age 15 to 39.

"I'll give them the best equipment possible for them to go out and do the best that they are capable of and if they end up on the podium that's great and we will celebrate together," sid Gillette.

This weekend marks a special event for Gillette as his racing team will be in action in Millville, which is only an hour and twenty minutes away for their facilities in La Crescent.

Racing action begins on Saturday morning and runs through Sunday.

The race will be held at Spring Creek Motocross Park, Adult tickets for Saturday's event are 20 dollars while tickets for children 6 to 11 are 10 dollars.
