Man gets 5 years for armed robbery

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – A La Crosse man, with a criminal past, has been sentenced to five years in prison for attempted armed robbery.

James Green, 24, is convicted of attempted armed robbery with the threat of force, as a repeater, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Last January, Green forced his way into an apartment, masked and carrying loaded gun, and demanding money.

Prosecutors said he put the lives of two women and two children under the age of five, in danger.

“I accept full responsibility for my stupid, selfish and dangerous actions and I truly and sincerely regret my decisions,” Green said, addressing the court.

This case is similar to a previous crime Green committed, according to the prosecution.

When he was 13, a judge convicted Green as a juvenile for being part of a robbery that turned into a homicide.

"Eleven years you were at a status where you could not possess a firearm, yet you did that to facilitate your selfish need to feed your drug habit,” said Judge Todd Bjerke.

Green has a history of drug abuse and mental health issues.

After he serves his five year sentence, he will spend another 11 years under extended supervision.
