WIAA taking up contact restrictions at football practices

Posted: Updated:
STEVENS POINT (WKOW) --Football practices could look a lot different at high schools this fall.

The WIAA and the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association are close to enacting a proposal that would set a weekly limit on contact in practice.

The proposal will be discussed Thursday at the WIAA board of control meeting in Stevens Point.

The hope is that coaches will devote more time to the fundamentals of blocking and tackling.

If approved Thursday, the rules could be in place in time for the start of the upcoming season.

Or it could be sent to committee this winter, which means the changes could take effect no sooner than 2015.
