LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – As part of her “Invest for Success” tour, Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke stopped in La Crosse on Thursday.
Burke toured the Coulee Region Small Business Center and spoke with people there, such as small business owners and employees.
Burke also talked about her campaign, as she launched a new advertisement on Thursday, which focuses on an investigation which includes Governor Scott Walker, and what prosecutors called “a criminal scheme to evade campaign laws”.
“I'm not going to let Scott Walker mislead the people of Wisconsin. The facts are that he is still under investigation, we are 150,000 jobs short of his jobs promise and that he has led Wisconsin to last, dead-last, in the midwest in job creation,” Burke said.
The advertisement comes out about one week after Burke said that she would not make the accusations against the Governor a focus of her campaign.
“There's a lot that has happened in the last week and what we have seen in regards to see Scott Walker's response to these criminal investigations, and also the launching of an attack ad that has been labeled false by politic fact against me. Certainly, there is a lot that has happened,” Burke said.
Wisconsin Republican Party Director Joe Fadness said Burke wants to distract voters from her own record as a part of Democratic Governor Jim Doyle's administration.
In a news release, the Walker campaign said Wisconsin was 47th in the nation in business creation when Burke was commerce secretary. The Governor has not been charged as part of the investigation which two judges have halted. Prosecutors are appealing those decisions.
