LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - One local food pantry had significant water damage after last night's storms.
WAFER lost power Saturday night and rain caused the majority of the building to flood.
Roughly 30 volunteers helped transfer 35 pallets of food -- each pallet weighing about 300 lbs -- out of the pantry and into a warehouse Sunday afternoon.
Executive Director Erin Waldhart said it's too early to estimate how much food they lost, and the water damage is only the beginning of what could be a bigger problem.
"It really significantly impacts our ability to serve our clients in an efficient and meaningful way. We had to clear out our warehouse, we lost product, we don't know the extent of that," Waldhart said. "And not to mention, the huge mess we have to deal with."
Waldhart said it's too early to tell whether WAFER will open for business tomorrow.
