MADISON, Wis. (WXOW) - The La Crosse Loggers are eliminated from the South Division title with a 2-1 loss in the first game of a doubleheader against the Madison Mallards Monday afternoon.
The team's loss, combined with a win by division leader Lakeshore Chinooks, mathematically eliminates the Loggers from the title.
In a game where they needed offense, La Crosse could only manage one run and three hits in the game. In the second inning, their only run came on a wild pitch by the Mallards Sterling Sharp that brought Ryan Kirby home from third.
Madison came back with one run in their half of the second off of losing pitcher Adam Cline. He had another earned run in the bottom of the fifth after giving up two singles and a walk.
The Loggers and Mallards head back to La Crosse for the final game of the doubleheader Monday evening. Game time is tentatively set for 7:05 p.m. at Copeland Park.
