LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Two beaches in La Crosse closed last week due to flooding. As of last Wednesday morning, the Mississippi River was at 13.4 feet which is more than a foot above flood stage. The river stage on Tuesday is at 11.46 feet
Due to the high water, the City of La Crosse Park and Recreation Department closed Black River Beach and Pettibone Beach.
Now that the river stage has dropped considerably since then, the department reopened the beaches on July 7.
Samantha Fitzpatrick, aquatics coordinator in La Crosse, says to "watch out for things around you. Within the roped area should be okay but if you are going out any farther than that just be careful or your surroundings and what could be under the water too."
