LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The U.S. Postal Service plans to close four Wisconsin distribution centers including the one in La Crosse, but the postal service said the impact will be minimal.
The distribution centers are expected to close starting in January 2015 but details on when the center in La Crosse will close is still unknown. The postal service said no jobs will be lost. The workers will all be reassigned.
"With all other consolidations, we have been able to reassign impacted bargaining unit employees to other bargaining unit positions in accordance with our collective bargaining agreements," said Dave Partenheimer, Manager of Media Relations, U.S. Postal Service. "Non-bargaining employees have been reassigned to available supervisory positions consistent with our reduction in force avoidance procedures."
Partenheimer adds that the process will not impact the mail delivery process or post office operations.
Distribution centers are also expected to close in Madison, Rothschild and Eau Claire.
