LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The Riverfest Opening Ceremony took place Thursday morning. The ceremony began with a march of the commodores, the traditional flag raising, and the singing of the national anthem.
The 2014 Riverfest Commodore Mike Diveley spoke, as did Mayor Kabat. Diveley said Riverfest highlighted the region's natural beauty. Kabat said Riverfest was a time for La Crosse to come together and appreciate things the community takes for granted the rest of the year.
The ceremony included a moment of silence for former Riverfest commodores and Riverfest organizers who passed away in the last year.
The ceremony marks the official start of Riverfest.
