VIROQUA, Wisconsin (WXOW) The American Legion and baseball have a long history together.
So it only seems natural that he two are coming together for a good cause.
Viroqua and Onalaska are hosting the Veterans Showcase Thursday.
17 Legion teams are competing at Viroqua and Onalaska with the proceeds from admissions and concessions donated to Operation Homefront, which provides assistance to families of our service members.
Tomah Legion manager Aaron Steffel came up with the idea, which was quickly embraced.
"We're trying to reward the vets for all the service they do for our country. The veterans, soldiers, soldiers overseas, we're trying to give something back to their families back here. So they have different needs during the year and we're just trying to help them out a little bit," said Viroqua Legion coach Pete Swanson.
Officials from Onalaska and Viroqua expect to be able to make a 5-figure donation to Operation Homefront from the day's proceeds.
