WAUSAU, Wis. (WXOW) - The La Crosse Loggers used a three-run third inning Friday night to top the Wisconsin Woodchucks 8-2 at Athletic Park.
Infielder Ryne Birk had three hits and a pair of RBI for the Loggers, who improve to 2-1 in the second half of the Northwoods League season and 23-15 overall. Jack Meggs, Luke Persico and Brody Weiss also had two hits for La Crosse.
Marc Frazier and Jacob Dorris each pitched four innings, combining to strike out five Woodchucks batters.
La Crosse scored in the opening inning on Birk's RBI single and added single tallies in the fourth, sixth, seventh, and eighth.
In the third inning, La Crosse loaded the bases with two outs using three straight walks. Nick Kanavas then singled to drive in two runs, and an errant throw from center field allowed Austin Rei to score all the way from first base on the play.
The two teams play again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
