ROCHESTER / STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (KTTC) -- Storms ripped through southeastern Minnesota Monday night, but no significant damage was done in Rochester.

The storms hit Rochester about 7:30 p.m., showering the area with heavy rain and intensified in Stewartville. The storms had been creeping up all day and some folks said they were amply prepared to lay low, but what they found outside their homes was rather shocking. One family found their tree blown over, but that wasn't all.

Kim Giehtbrock has lived on Luella Place Northeast in Stewartville for ten years and has seen many storms, but none that have done this. These winds were so powerful that a piece of siding blew off her house. She said she's just thankful that everyone is safe.

"As we were watching we could see from the other room that the winds were pretty strong," said Giehtbrock. "The neighbors' planters were going past our patio door, and we could hear our patio furniture making its way to the opposite side and some down the steps."

The rain pelted areas around Highway 63 and left some debris in its path. However, the strong wind gusts and showers lasted for 15 minutes at most according to homeowners.
