LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps is preparing for their first regional competition this week.  Blue Stars will compete at the River City Rhapsody Drum Corps International regional competition on Saturday at UW-La Crosse's Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.

The competition features fifteen drum and bugle corps from across the country.  Blue Stars and the other drum and bugle corps coming to River City Rhapsody are the best of the best in the world of competitive marching band.

The group has put in full days of practice in preparation for the competition.  Each day its members wake up at six or seven and begin practicing by seven or eight.  They do three blocks of rehearsal, each lasting four hours.

But it's not just about the competition.  Blue Stars is based in La Crosse, and Corps Director Russ Gavin said they love performing in the area because of their attachment to the community.
