------------- LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Two high school students from La Crosse are competing in a national bass fishing competition next week.
Jace Smith and Brady McCoy won the state competition in Minoqua, Wisconsin against 8 other teams last month. Now, they'll be moving on to the Bassmaster High School Championship in Tennessee on Kentucky lake. This time, they're competing against 96 other teams and fishing on a lake they're not familiar with, so they say it's important to be prepared.
"Looking stuff up, talking to people that have fished on the lake before, watching lots of videos on youtube and stuff like that," says the 15-year-old Smith.
"I've never really fished a lake similar to Lake Kentucky so I'm really going to have to figure the patterns out and do whatever I can to try to catch a good bag," says 15 year old, Brady McCoy.
Jace and Brady are sponsored by Ace Sports Land and Tucker's Powerhouse Marine in La Crosse who pay for their travel expenses. They leave Sunday morning. The national competition begins on Wednesday, July 16th in Tennessee.
