East Ward Commerce Center Opens on La Crosse's South Side

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - East Ward Commerce Center opened with a ribbon cutting Friday on La Crosse's south side.

The center will house the offices of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.  The building was empty for thirteen years, but a collaboration between several organizations revitalized the building and prepared it to serve a new purpose.

East Ward Commerce Center also features a garden out front managed by the Hmong Community Center.  Xong Xiong, of the Hmong Community Center, said that the garden offered the opportunity to teach community members about sustainability, culture, food justice, and poverty.

La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat attended the ribbon cutting, as did Wisconsin Workforce Development Deputy Secretary Jonathan Barry.  Barry said that the East Ward Commerce Center was a place that could assist individuals in contributing to their communities.
