LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW)- A benefit is set for Thursday for the family of a La Crosse man who drowned in the Black River last week.
The benefit will help the family of 23-year-old Shalim Augustine with funeral expenses. The event is at Huck Finn's on the Water where Shalim worked as a bartender.
The benefit starts at 4:00 pm with a Silent Auction and go until 9:00 pm. Items included in the auction include a trip to Atlantic City, an autograph from Aaron Rodgers, Loggers tickets, fall river cruise, baked goods and more. In addition, Joe Cody and Jan Arden will be performing from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
For anyone who cannot attend the benefit but wishes to make a donation, there is a bank account at Associated Bank set up under the name of Shalim Augustine Benefit Fund which will be active until August 31st. Servers and Bartenders at the benefit will donate tips to Shalim's family.
Patty Baumgartner, manager of Huck Finn's, encourages everyone to come drink, eat, listen to great music and help support an amazing man's family. "We are just trying to do everything we can to help the family out because this is an awful thing and if we can help ease some of their worries, Shalim would appreciate that."
Huck Finn's on the Water is located on 129 Marina Drive in French Island.
"Thanks so much for all of the support. It's been wonderful, especially when you're going through something like this and just seeing the outpouring of care from everybody has made an unbearable situation a little bit more bearable," Baumgartner stated.
