Johnson stands mute to charges in taxi cab driver death
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - A man facing charges in connection with the death of a taxi cab driver stood mute to six felony charges Wednesday. La Crosse County Judge Dale Pasell entered not guilty pleas on behalf of Timmy Johnson Jr.
The 25-year-old is charged with first degree recklessly endangering safety, car theft, and fleeing officers.
On June 12, police said Johnson beat cab driver Merle Forbes and stole his cab near Platteville.
Early on the morning of June 13, La Crosse County authorities arrested Johnson in Holmen after a high speed chase and crash. Forbes was found in the trunk of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. Johnson is expected back in court in September.
John Kellis with the La Crosse County District Attorney's office told News 19 he can not get into details on why Johnson has not been charged with homicide.
