LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - State Representative Jill Billings is happy plans are underway for a new rest stop in La Crosse.
The Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that they will construct a new rest stop facility at the site of the current one which was built in 1977.
In a statement, Rep. Billings said, "I am pleased the DOT is taking action on this project. Along with other local leaders, I have been advocating for this project for some time. Updating this rest stop is important for tourism in our region. The center is a gateway to Wisconsin and having an updated building will encourage more people to stop in La Crosse and the Coulee Region to enjoy our local businesses.”
Plans call for building the new facility during I-90 reconstruction scheduled for 2016. Rep. Billings said that the rest stop project made sense then since it will be closed during the road work.
