Nearly 300 volunteers participate in "Day of Caring"

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Twelve businesses and almost 300 volunteers rolled up their sleeves for the 20th annual "Day of Caring."

The "Day of Caring" marks an early kickoff for Pacesetter Companies to begin volunteering and collecting donations for the Great Rivers United Way.

Twelve area businesses participated in the event by "setting the pace" for the United Way community-wide campaign to begin on September 4th.

Throughout La Crosse, Monroe, Trempealeau, Vernon, and Houston counties, volunteers completed 21 separate projects.

In La Crosse, nine volunteers from Dairyland Power, Kaplan, and Trane helped build a bike rack shelter at the Salvation Army.

The bike shelter will help those traveling to and from the Salvation Army to keep their bikes dry and safe.

This years Pacesetter Companies include: Altra Federal Credit Union, Dairyland Power Cooperative, Festival Foods, Gundersen Health System, Kaplan University School of Professional Education, Kwik Trip, Logistics Health, Inc., Trane, Tri-State Ambulance, United Parcel Service, W.A. Roosevelt Company, and Wieser Brothers General Contractors.
