The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Games were held Saturday at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh. Players from La Crosse, Holmen, G.E.T., De Soto, Westby, and Black River Falls participated in both of the games.
The graduated seniors were divided into four groups: large northern schools,, small northern schools, large southern schools and small southern schools. The North and South teams from each division played Saturday afternoon, the South winning both games.
La Crosse Central's Mitchell Johnson-Martin and Holmen's Greg Rooney represented the North in the large school game. Though they lost to the South 24-8, they were happy to be on the field one last time, and make some new friends along the way.
"I met so many great guys and so many guys that I'm going to be playing with in Duluth," Johnson-Martin said. "It's a great experience. I've got 44 new brothers now."
"It was kind of nice to put the helmet back on one more time," Rooney said. "I got to meet 44 new friends that I'll never forget. I'll keep in touch with most of them. That was just a nice finish to the high school career."
Martin-Johnson will play for the University of Minnesota-Duluth this fall. Rooney is heading to Winona State University.
