Bass Fishing League Tournament Brings Anglers to La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Anglers from across the Midwest made their way to La Crosse Saturday to try their luck at catching bass on the Mississippi.  Over 100 fishermen launched from the Clinton Street boat landing in La Crosse early Saturday morning to compete in Walmart's Bass Fishing League Great Lakes Division Tournament.

Over $8,000 in prizes are up for grabs, and the tournament's organizers, Fishing League Worldwide, said that they expect the winner "to bring about 17 pounds to the scale."  Although water has been high recently on the Mississippi, anglers said they expect the fishing to have improved in time for the weekend tournament with water levels dropping recently.

Bass Fishing League has over 24 divisions nationwide, with 120 tournaments throughout the season.  Top anglers from the Great Lakes Division will qualify for a regional competition.
