WEST SALEM, Wis (WXOW) - On Friday and Saturday, dozens of kids from across the Coulee Region attended Kicking Bear Camp at West Salem's Rod and Gun Club.
The camp, which is in its fourteenth year, is a free opportunity for kids to get outside. Kicking Bear's focus is on ministry through archery and outdoor experiences.
On Saturday, kids participated in archery, tomahawk throwing, and shooting BB guns. Kicking Bear also had a bounce house and a slip and slide.
Founder Ray Howell said that the camp is valuable to kids in the area because it gets them outside and allows them to do new things. Howell said, "A lot of the kids here, they've never had the opportunity to do the things we do here in the outdoors, so Kicking Bear is free to everyone. We take all the kids off the concrete and steel and bring them out here and tear it up."
Kids were required to have a parent attend with them. Meals, camping, and activities were all free.
