Posted: Updated:

Mayo Clinic Health System held a celebration for the 10th anniversary of their Cancer and Surgery Center Thursday.

The Cancer and Surgery Center is located in Mayo's Center for Advance Medicine building. The cancer center provides chemotherapy and radiation treatment, while the surgery center provides state of the art operations. The center also provides a social worker specialized in working with cancer patients, an insurance verification specialist, and a care coordinator. Diane Otte, Director of the Cancer Center, said that the building was about streamlining the process of cancer care, making it easier for patients who are going through a difficult time. Otte said the building was designed to provide a natural and comfortable environment for patients.

Otte said that the day was about recognizing the donors who made the building happen, and recognizing staff that make the center function every day. The building cost $28.4 million to construct.
