Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area buys new building in the city

Posted: Updated:
La Crosse, WI (WXOW) - Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area is purchasing a new building that will house the Habitat ReStore which sells a variety of donated household items and building materials to the public at discount prices.  The building will also house the main offices for the Habitat for Humanity Affiliate.  The new building is located at 3181 Berlin Drive in La Crosse.  Situated within the La Crosse International Business Park, the building neighbors the Solid Waste Department/Landfill and Stansfield Vending (one mile east of Valley View Mall on Hwy 16).

The purchase comes at the end of a nearly two year long search for a new building, prompted primarily by a need for more retail space and expanded parking lot. Steve Baker, ReStore Manager, says: “Thanks to the new, easily accessible location, larger retail space, and additional parking, we feel optimistic that we’ll be able to increase the volume of donations and sales, and we hope to attract even more shoppers, volunteers, and donors.”

“We are very excited to be taking this next step to grow our Habitat affiliate. All proceeds from sales in the ReStore support our affiliate, ultimately helping build more homes in partnership with families in our community,” adds Amanda Acklin, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area.

Says Acklin, “We couldn’t have taken this important step without the support of our community. The outpouring of monetary donations and commitments has been tremendous.” Habitat for Humanity La Crosse launched a capital campaign, seeking to raise $400,000 to help fund the move and the new building.

The ReStore will continue to operate at its current location, 434 Third Street South in downtown La Crosse through the fall of 2014. Habitat will be updating their website and social media pages regarding the move and the dates.

Monetary donations can be made online at www.habitatlacrosse.org. Checks can be mailed to Habitat for Humanity (Attn. Capital Campaign), PO Box 2123, La Crosse, WI 54602. Employer deduction, employer match and stock donations are also welcome.
