Arcadia, WI (WXOW) - - Arcadia wins the blue ribbon for best-tasting water in Wisconsin.

The Arcadia Water Utility of Western Wisconsin won the Blue Ribbon for best-tasting water today at the Wisconsin State Fair. Arcadia won the title in competition sponsored by the Wisconsin Water Association, an organization representing over 900 members of the drinking water profession. The 28th annual contest showcases the dedicated work of drinking water professionals to provide safe, high quality drinking water 24-hours-a-day.

Arcadia has won the state title three times in the past four years. Utility manager Gary Skroch attributes the titles to a mineral-rich source of groundwater, tapped at four wells in the city. Arcadia water employs eight water professionals.

Wisconsin is known nationally for its drinking water quality. Previously, Stevens Point and Arcadia won best tasting in the nation and third place at the national level, respectively. Arcadia may again enter the national competition at the AWWA Annual Expo next year in Anaheim, California, to represent Wisconsin.

At the fair, 10 municipal drinking water utilities provided samples in the non-scientific contest which considered taste, odor, and appearance.

Final round winners were second place, Appleton; and third place, Madison. Other competitors were Green Bay, Manitowoc, Jackson, Milwaukee, Kenosha, Sheboygan, and Cudahy.

AWWA is the largest organization of water professionals in the world.
