La Crosse, WI (WXOW) -
The Judiciary & Administration Committee met Tuesday night to discuss the future expansion of the YMCA's Teen Center.
On Monday, the City Plan Commission approved the expansion of the current YMCA parking lot. The plan calls for the creation of new parking spaces where the teen center is now. The center would relocate to the corner of 11th and King.
Tuesday, the J&A Committee approved unanimously the residential lots connected to the center to be rezoned to for the YMCA's purpose. This allows the Y to be able to expand the teen center and the parking lot as long as the City Council approves it at their next meeting.
The Y's executive director, Bill Soper, says they want to be able to expand the building to include a kitchen, recording studio, art room, technology room as well as much more. He says that there is a big demand for the expansion.
The center is a safe, tobacco, alcohol, and drug-free drop-in center for teens in the 8th-12th grades.
